Inking tools

The Cleanup tool removes dirt from the Trace layer. It searches for small areas that are unconnected to the character's outline, and paints them with the transparent color. See Cleaning up blemishes in the Trace layer.

The Area Ink Outside Box tool inks in the area outside a bounding box.

The Ink Line Toggle tool can be used to modify the way that this tool works (see below).

The Area Ink Inside Box tool inks in the area inside a bounding box.

The Ink Line Toggle tool can be used to modify the way that this tool works (see below).

The Freehand Inkbrush tool adds color to ink lines in a freehand form.

To change the size of the brush used by the tool, hold down the Alt key:

Drag down and to the left to make the brush smaller, or

Drag up and to the right to make the brush larger.

The Ink Line Toggle tool can be used to modify the way that this tool works (see below).

The Copy Ink tool copies ink colors, including those with line thickenings and blends.

The Ink tool colors ink line segments. You set the color for the Ink tool in the same way as you do for the Freehand Inkbrush tool; either choose from the palette, or use the Copy Ink tool to pick up the settings and color from any line segment.

The Ink Line Toggle tool can be used to modify the way that this tool works (see below).

The Ink Line Toggle tool controls the modifications you can make with the following inking tools:

Area Ink Outside Box tool

Area Ink Inside Box tool

Freehand Inkbrush tool

Ink tool

The tool has two modes, which you can toggle between by clicking on the icon:

When the tool is selected (i.e. is a different color to most of the other tools), you can only ink lines that are currently inked in the Default Trace color.

When the tool is not selected (i.e. is the same color as most of the other tools), you can ink lines of any color.
